The change happened so quickly that I wasn’t even aware of it at first, but Google Video search released a new interface last week. The new UI is similar to Google Reader with a navbar on the left and a main content window in the middle.
Overall, the redesign is a huge improvement over its clunky and buggy-as-hell predecessor. But I have noticed one caveat. The results page doesn’t list videos outside of Youtube and a handful of *other* sites. I searched for videos that originated on Funny or Die and CollegeHumor only to get their crappy Youtube clones. Embedding other video formats into a universal interface is not easy, but it is doable.
Undoubtedly, I do not understand Google Foo or any such nonsense as I’m sure dryan will correct me shortly, but it just seems a little off to me. Perhaps the blame rests on the external sites too. But what do I know? I’m just the dumb end-user.
